FBGP present cheque for £40,000 to the Mayor of Bangor

The Friends of Bangor Garth Pier are delighted to announce that work started on the substructure of the pier on Monday 6th October. After the amazing success of the Appeal over the summer to raise £40,000 to complete the welding of the substructure, the trustees of the Friends of Bangor Garth Pier presented a cheque for the full amount to the Mayor of Bangor Cllr Medwyn Hughes, in a short ceremony on the same day. The £40,000 from the appeal will be matched with funding from Bangor City Council and the work is scheduled to be completed before the winter weather sets in. Said FBGP Chair Avril Wayte, “I have a message for our incredible donors. What a momentous occasion! We asked for your help, and you delivered! Thank you all so much. This is partnership working at its finest: Bangor City Council, Friends of Bangor Garth Pier, and the public. £40,000 Target reached in less than Four Weeks!

At the start of August the Friends of Bangor Garth Pier (FBGP) launched an appeal to raise £40,000 to complete the essential work on the substructure of the pier to make it safe and protect it for generations to come. The Trustees of the FBGP are delighted to announce that only three and a half weeks into their appeal, the £40,000 target has been reached. The £40,000 from the appeal will be matched with funding from Bangor City Council and the work is scheduled to start within the next few weeks weather and the contractor’s schedule permitting. The launch date coincided with Storm Floris arriving in Bangor but it did not deter the local and national media who were invaluable in helping to raise the profile of the appeal. Several big donations including from Nick Pritchard and CPD Dinas Bangor 1876 FC, Simon Squibb, Elin Haf Davies, Ryan Howard, the Tregarth Family Trust, Peter Gillard, Tony Claydon, Chris Jere and several anonymous donors which, one from a local resident, made a huge...
