BANGOR GARTH PIER
We are delighted to have committed Patrons of FBGP who very generously lend their support to our work not only as figureheads but who genuinely believe in our aim to secure a sustainable future for this beloved heritage structure at the heart of the community of Bangor.
Rev’d Wynne Roberts BEM
Wynne was born in Bangor and has spent the majority of his life in the Bangor area. Studied at Bangor University and Cambridge, Wynne was ordained in the Church in Wales in 1987 and served as Minor Canon of Bangor Cathedral, Vicar of Porthmadog and Sub-Rector of Bangor. He has been the chaplain of Ysbyty Gwynedd for the last 25 years. He is currently the Chaplain Manager of Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board. He has been a judicial member of the Mental Health Tribunal for Wales since 2001. In 2020, Wynne was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's New Year Honors - for his charity work, especially his other life as Elvis Cymraeg ( The Welsh Elvis). Wynne is passionate about supporting the Pier as the real gem in the city's Crown.
Aled Jones
Aled Jones, Welsh singer and radio and television presenter, agreed to become a Patron of FBGP in August 2022. Born in Bangor and brought up on Anglesey, Aled reached widespread fame in the 1980s as a teenage chorister and since then has had a successful career and varied career including as a contestant on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Said Aled about taking on the role of FBGP Patron: “I am delighted to become a Patron of the Friends of Bangor Garth Pier and to support their work ensuring a sustainable future for this iconic heritage structure in the City of Bangor. Growing up locally and singing in Bangor Cathedral as a young chorister, Bangor Garth Pier was an important visual landmark of my youth. The work of FBGP will enable this unique and special place to be enjoyed by the local community and visitors to the area for generations to come.”
