Imagine the magic of a marriage ceremony on Bangor Garth Pier– a wonderfully unique experience for a bride and groom to treasure forever with the best views in North Wales of the Menai Strait, Anglesey and Eryri (Snowdonia) from our beautiful Grade II* listed heritage gem.
The Friends of Bangor Garth Pier are delighted to announce that the dream is coming true for Nicky Eccles and Sean Kelly, who will be the first couple to be married on Bangor Pier on 19th September.
A chance meeting in May at the Pier’s 130th Anniversary celebrations with one of the trustees, where Nicky asked whether a wedding would be possible on the pier, led to three months of intense preparations. This included applying for the licence through Gwynedd Council and the registrars, who were supremely helpful, visiting the pier to see if the venue was suitable.
With all the official and legal documents in place, it was all systems go to try to arrange a wedding in just 12 weeks!
Nicky and Sean are hoping that the ceremony will take place outside on the deck at the pier head, but the wet weather plan is inside The Pavilion Café where 60 people can be seated. Drinks and nibbles will be served at The Pavilion after the ceremony and there will also be the opportunity for capturing the occasion and location in what are sure to be stunning photographs.
It is definitely going to be a day to remember on the pier and of course a wonderful celebration for Nicky and Sean as they begin their married life together. The trustees of FBGP are hoping that it will be the first of many weddings in a new chapter for the pier.
