The Friends of Bangor Garth Pier are delighted to announce that work will be starting on the substructure of the pier on Monday 6th October.
After the amazing success of the Appeal over the summer to raise £40,000 to complete the welding of the substructure, the trustees of the Friends of Bangor Garth Pier will be presenting a cheque for the full amount to representatives from Bangor City Council, including the Mayor Cllr Medwyn Hughes, in a short ceremony on the pier on the same day from 4pm.
The £40,000 from the appeal will be matched with funding from Bangor City Council and the work is scheduled to be completed before the winter weather sets in.
The trustees of FBGP would also like to invite all who donated to the Appeal to come along to see the presentation of the and to celebrate the start of the work.
Said FBGP Chair Avril Wayte, “I have a message for our incredible donors. What a momentous occasion! We asked for your help, and you delivered!
“Thank you all so much. This is partnership working at its finest: Bangor City Council, Friends of Bangor Garth Pier, and the public.
“Together, we will keep our pier safe; safe for your walks, and safe for you to create memories for the future. And here’s to the future – together!”
Said the Mayor Cllr Medwyn Hughes, “I am delighted that the Friends of Garth Pier here in Bangor have not only managed to reach their £40,000 target but have done it so quickly.
“It shows their efforts have been worthwhile along with demonstrating how much the Pier means to so many here in our locality.
“The City Council are extremely grateful to all who contributed either financially or by fundraising through the Friends.
“Work has already started on safeguarding the infrastructure for the coming years.”
