The Christmas on the Pier programme for 2024 was disrupted by the stormy weather in December which led to the cancellation of the Christmas Concert and ‘switching on’ of the lights. In spite of the weather our other planned activities took place and proved to be highly successful.
Although there was no official ‘switching on’ of the Christmas lights, the pier looked brilliant throughout December, as the culmination of the Festival of Light, with the coloured lights on the railings and around the entrance gates and kiosks. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped to put the lights on the pier and to BCC’s Aaron who was in overall charge. The Sponsor a Light campaign raised £590 for FBGP funds.
Santa’s Grotto in the Pier Master’s House proved more popular than ever. Over the first three weekends in December over 400 children visited Santa with their families. We were delighted this year that due to the generous sponsorship received from local community groups and individuals we could offer families the chance to attend who might otherwise had not been able to afford to. Once again thank you to our volunteers who worked so hard to make the Christmas Grotto such a success.
Our first ever Grand Raffle exceeded all expectations. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses and individuals who donated over 40 prizes including artwork, gifts and vouchers for local restaurants and shops. Once again our wonderful volunteers stepped in to sell the tickets and in total we raised £3170 for FBGP funds.
We would also like to thank our sponsors: Signs & Design, Hogan Group, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Griffiths Construction, Dafydd Hardy, Great Strait Raft Run, RunWales, an anonymous local donor and also the Penrhyn Estate for providing the lovely tree at the entrance to the grotto.
