FBGP volunteer Fiona was delighted that her first shift back recently at the Entrance Kiosk on the pier was not only on a sunny day but that she met an inspiring group of cyclists raising money for heart transplants.

The Electric Cranks Cycling Club stopped off at the pier as part of a 100+ mile challenge along the North Wales Coast. All the cyclists are waiting either for heart transplants or have had LVADs fitted (Left Ventricular Assist Devices) and cycle everywhere on their electric bikes to not only try and get fit but to make everyone aware of their life saving devices. They are easy to spot with their distinctive purple Mohawks on their cycle helmets!

One of the cyclists was from Bangor and Fiona was very interested to hear how form him how the amazing device (LVAD) fitted at Wythenshawe hospital had saved his life 2 years ago.

Said Fiona, ‘What a lovely shift to come back to and to hear their brave incredible stories which were so inspiring. Without volunteering I never would have met these incredible people.’

To date they have raised £10 000 for The Wythenshawe Hospital Transplant Fund. To find out more about the Electric Cranks click here: Electric Cranks Cycling Club
