As Chair of FBGP I am delighted to announce that we have a big year ahead in 2026 – when our glorious, beautiful pier is 130 years old. Imagine that wonderful day when our pier was officially opened, and the world events that have happened since then – the passing of the Victorian era, two World Wars, the creation of the world wide web, and the dreadful Covid years, and then winning the prestigious Pier of the Year Award. But here we are, with our pier still here despite everything the elements have to throw at us and delighting us and our visitors every day!
We have so many plans for 2026 – festivals and other community events – starting with St David’s Day on Sunday March 1st, and importantly more fundraising to continue to aid Bangor City Council, the pier’s owners in keeping our pier safe, with the ongoing welding to the substructure needing to be followed by sandblasting and painting. The recent sad fate of Teignmouth Pier during Storm Chandra is a lesson to us all, and we need to do all we can to protect our precious pier.
So, watch this space, and all climb onboard to enjoy the ride that is 2026!
